1. The three models, and what they really cost
Be most wary of that last row. A free service earns its money somewhere: commission on orders, ads shown to your guests, or reselling data. Ask explicitly how the service makes money.
The word "free" attached to a digital menu always deserves a follow-up question.
| Model | What you pay | The risk |
|---|---|---|
| Flat subscription | A monthly amount, known in advance | You pay even in a quiet month |
| Commission per order | A percentage of every sale | The cost climbs as you succeed |
| Hardware + licence | An upfront purchase in currency, then a licence | Failure and replacement are on you |
| Free | Nothing, apparently | Funded by commission, ads, or your data |
